Wheat Cultivars

Wheat varieties developed at the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, an agricultural and natural resource research program of the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), are often protected under the U.S. Plant Variety Protection Act (PVPA).  Anyone selling the variety, offering the variety for sale, reproducing it, importing or exporting it, or using it in producing a hybrid variety is required to be licensed by Florida Foundation Seed Producers, Inc.

SS524 '36803' - (U.S. PVP 200200005)
Soft Red Winter Wheat Variety

Description:  '36803' was cooperatively developed and released by the Georgia and Florida Agricultural Experiment Stations in 2001.  '36803' is a early-medium maturing, white chaffed, medium height, high yielding, good test weight, awnless soft red winter wheat with good straw strength.  It matures on average 3 days earlier than AGS 2000 in Georgia and similar in the southeast region. 

It is moderately susceptible to current races of leaf rust, Puccinia recondita and susceptible to predominant biotypes (biotype GP, B, D, E, L) of Hessian flies (Mayetiola destructor (Say), and moderately resistant to powdery mildew (Erysiphe graminis DC. f. sp. tritici Em. Marchal) in Georgia.  '36803' is resistant to leaf rust races, TFBL, PNMQ, TDGL, and FLML.

Milling and baking quality characteristics of '36803' are rated as acceptable for soft red winter wheat use by the USDA-Soft Wheat Quality Laboratory, Wooster, OH.

'518W' - (U.S. PVP 9800327)
Soft Red Winter Wheat Variety

Description:  '518W' is an awnless, white chaffed, medium maturing, short height line with intermediate straw strength.  It matures on average similar to GA Gore and 2 days earlier than Coker 9835.  It is resistant to currently predominant races of leaf rust, moderately resistant to powdery mildew, and susceptible to biotypes of Hessian Fly found in Florida and Georgia.  was cooperatively developed and released by the Georgia and Florida Agricultural Experiment Stations in 2001.  '36803' is a early-medium maturing, white chaffed, medium height, high yielding, good test weight, awnless soft red winter wheat with good straw strength.  It matures on average 3 days earlier than AGS 2000 in Georgia and similar in the southeast region.
