Description: ‘Magnus’ is a high, early yielding variety which is suitable for hand harvest for the fresh market. It blooms early (earlier than ‘Optimus’ and ‘Wayne’) and has strong early yield of large fruit. ‘Magnus’ has been very consistent in its production across years and has been successful in both hydrogen cyanamide and non-hydrogen cyanamide production systems. Although ‘Magnus’ is thought to be an improvement over ‘Emerald’, it is less vigorous than ‘Emerald’. ‘Magnus’ may require freeze protection in January. Further testing is required in central Florida. in certain areas. If hydrogen cyanamide is used in production, only very low doses are recommended.
