'Gulfbeauty' (U.S. Patent PP11,224)
Plum Variety

Description: 'Gulfbeauty' is a low-chill plum variety with a chilling requirement of approximately 250 chill units (cu) but appears to have a high heat requirement for breaking dormancy.  'Gulfbeauty' is adapted to the central and north Florida winter climate and has heavy annual crop loads which ripen in early May within its adapted area. The tree is of large size, is vigorous, and has a semi-spreading growth habit.  'Gulfbeauty' flowers along with that of 'Gulfruby' plum, and is an efficient pollinizer for 'Gulfruby', 'Gulfblaze' (U.S. Patent PP10,873), and 'Gulfrose' (U.S. Patent PP12,833), as none are self fruitful.  Fruit of 'Gulfbeauty' are medium size, firm, and clingstone with good eating quality and a sour skin.  The fruit has a deep red skin and firm, light yellow flesh.  Fruit of 'Gulfbeauty' ripens seven (7) to ten (10) days earlier than that of 'Gulfruby' plum.  Fruit set is very high and heavy fruit thinning may be required to prevent limb breakage and size fruit properly.  'Gulfbeauty' has a higher degree of resistance in leaves, twigs, and fruit to bacterial leaf spot (Xanthomonas campestris) than does 'Gulfruby'.  Fruit of 'Gulfbeauty' are highly resistant to sun scald ('Gulfruby' is highly susceptible), concentric skin cracks, and split stones.  Leaves of 'Gulfbeauty' have moderate resistance to leaf scald (Xylella fastidiosa).

'Gulfblaze' (U.S. Patent PP10,873)
Plum Variety

Description: 'Gulfblaze' is a low-chill plum variety with a chilling requirement of approximately 250 chill units (cu) but appears to have a high heat requirement for breaking dormancy.  'Gulfblaze' is adapted to the mild winters of central and north Florida, flowering with 'Gulfruby' plum and is cross pollinated by 'Gulfruby'.  'Gulfblaze' is an efficient pollinizer for 'Gulfruby', 'Gulfbeauty' (U.S. Patent PP11,224), and 'Gulfrose' (U.S. Patent PP12,833), as none are self fruitful.  'Gulfblaze' is a regular and productive bearer of medium large, firm, semi-freestone fruit with good eating quality and sour skin.  The fruit of 'Gulfblaze' has deep burgundy skin with firm, orangish flesh.  Fruit of 'Gulfbeauty' ripens seven (7) to ten (10) days later than that of 'Gulfruby' plum.  Fruit set is very high and heavy fruit thinning may be required to prevent limb breakage and size fruit properly.  'Gulfblaze' has a higher degree of resistance in leaves, twigs, and fruit to bacterial leaf spot (Xanthomonas campestris) than does 'Gulfruby'.  Fruit of 'Gulfblaze' are highly resistant to sun scald ('Gulfruby' is highly susceptible), concentric skin cracks, and split stones.  Leaves of 'Gulfbeauty' have moderate resistance to leaf scald (Xylella fastidiosa).
