Bobolink™ 'FL03-291' - (U.S. Patent PP21,377)
Southern Highbush Blueberry Variety

Description:  Bobolink™ ‘FL03-291’ is a highly vigorous plant with excellent survival, and a strong upright growth habit.  These plants have good early leafing habits, with high pollen abundance.  Testing conducted in Windsor, FL concluded that the mean date when half (50%) of the flowers opened was February 10 (early to mid February).

Bobolink™ ‘FL03-291’ also boasts large, high-quality berries.  The berries form in loose clusters on the plant, and require little force to detach the fruit from the plant.  The berries are sweet, even when first turning blue, adn begin ripening mid-season (same as 'Star').  Testing conducted in Windsor, FL concluded a mean ripening date for half (50%) of the berries to be April 23 (mid to late April). Berries averaged a weight of 2.75g (STDEV 0.16), and have potential for high yield.

Chickadee™ 'FL04-235' - (U.S. Patent PP21,376)
Southern Highbush Blueberry Variety

Description:  Chickadee™ ‘FL04-235’ is a vigorous plant which has a good survival rate.  It has a desirable upright growth habit, with a narrow base that makes it nearly monopodial.  It also possesses stout twigs and stems with a loose berry clustering pattern.  Production is advised south of Gainesville due to the plant's  tendency to uproot when bearing heavy ice loads.  This plant flowers very early and has a very high pollen abundance.  Trials in Windsor, FL concluded a mean date in which half (50%) of the flowers opened to be January 28 (late January).

Chickadee™ ‘FL04-235’ produces very high quality berries with a flavor that is sweet with a low acidity.  The berries are large and firm, and almost crisp.  Mean berry weights for trials in Windsor, FL were 2.36g (STDEV 0.21).  Berries ripen extremely early; half (50%) of the berries were ripe by April 15 (mid-April) in trials in Windsor, FL.  Berries maintain their high-quality for a very long time on the bush.  These berries detach with medium to medium-hard force.

'Farthing' - (U.S. Patent PP19,341)
Southern Highbush Blueberry Variety

Zone:  In addition to performing well in north-central Florida, 'Farthing' has been tested in a 50-hour chill zone and has produced commercial crops of high quality fruit. Because it flowers somewhat late, 'Farthing' has potential for being planted to cross-pollinate 'Star' in Homerville and Baxley, Georgia.

Description:  'Farthing' is vigorous and survives well in commercial fields.  It is a vigorous but not a tall-growing plant.  It has the somewhat squat bush structure of 'Windsor', but with more branchiness.  The leaves are unusually dark-green in color.  The plant makes numerous flower buds and flowers very heavily.  Flowering is not as late as for 'Star' and 'Windsor' but later than for 'Emerald', 'Jewel', and 'Millennia'. The berries begin to ripen at about the same time as 'Star', 'Windsor', and 'Emerald'.  Because of the high crop load typical of 'Farthing', the harvest continues for 6 weeks, similar to 'Emerald'.  Plant survival in the field has been good.  The plants can be propagated readily by softwood cuttings.  'Farthing' is partially self-incompatible and requires cross pollination for full fruit set.

The berries of 'Farthing' are potentially very large on plants that have a light crop, but the typical
heavy crop reduces berry size somewhat.  The berries are high in most quality components.  The
color of the berries tends to be dark.  Berry firmness is exceptionally good, and the texture is somewhat but not fully crisp.  Berry scar and flavor are good.  The berries have been harvested, packed, and shipped commercially with no reported problems.

Flicker™ 'FL96-43' - (U.S. Patent PP21,554)
Southern Highbush Blueberry Variety

Description:  Plants of Flicker™ ‘FL96-43’ are upright, highly vigorous, and have shown excellent potential for evergreen production.  With a chilling requirement of approximately 200 hours, Flicker™ ‘FL96-43’ may be used for early-season deciduous production in Gainesville, FL, or for evergreen production in warmer climates such as Mexico.  Plants of Flicker™ ‘FL96-43’ are more vigorous and have a higher yield potential than ‘Star’ (U.S. PP10,675).  In experimental test plots in northeast Florida, Flicker™ ‘FL96-43’ has produced 5-8 pounds of berries per bush on plants 3 years of age or older.  Plants of Flicker™ ‘FL96-43’ have shown medium to good survival in the field, but have had some problems leafing in some years.  Flicker™ ‘FL96-43’ appears to have above-average resistance to root rot (Phytophthora cinnamomi) and average resistance to stem blight (Botryosphaeria spp.).  Plants of Flicker™ ‘FL96-43’ have shown no signs of cane canker (Botryosphaeria corticis) susceptibility in the field.  As a young plant, Flicker™ ‘FL96-43’ may have a tendency to over-fruit.

Fruit of Flicker™ ‘FL96-43’ are large and attractive and tend to grow in very loose clusters.  Berries of Flicker™ ‘FL96-43’ are light-blue in color and have an average weight of 2.41g per berry compared to 2.0g per berry for that of ’Star’.  Flowers of Flicker™ ‘FL96-43’ are typically 50% open by February 4th in Windsor, FL.  Fruit of Flicker™ ‘FL96-43’ ripens early, and is typically 50% ripe by April 30 in Windsor, FL.  Fruit of Flicker™ ‘FL96-43’ require a medium amount of force to remove from the plant, and its sweet, mature berries retain quality for a long time while on the bush.  Fruit of Flicker™ ‘FL96-43’ have a small, dry picking scar, high firmness, and good flavor.

'Scintilla' - (U.S. Patent PP19,233)
Southern Highbush Blueberry Variety

Zone:  North-central Florida and may do well in central Florida

Description:  'Scintilla' has a vigorous and semi-upright in growth habit.  Its survival under field conditions is medium to good.  This survival implies acceptable levels of resistance to stem blight (Botryosphaeria dothidea) and root rot (Phytopthora cinnamomi), the principal pathogens that kill blueberries in Florida. The plant requires the standard commercial fungicide applications after harvest to retain leaves through autumn. The plant propagates readily from softwood cuttings and grows vigorously once established.  'Scintilla' is partially self-incompatible and requires cross pollination for full fruit set.

'Scintilla' produces only a medium number of fruit, but these are very large. The plant flowers earlier than Star and Windsor, and freeze protection may needed as early as January 20. The plant produces new vegetative growth early enough in the season to fully support berry development.  Berry quality is high. The berry is large and has excellent color, scar, firmness and flavor. Berry clusters are loose and the berry can be harvested rapidly. Berries have been picked, packed, and shipped through a commercial packinghouse without problems.
