'Orange Hot' (US
PPAF)
Anthurium
Cultivar
![]() | Plants of ‘Orange Hot’ produce numerous light orange spathes and spadices and possess a compact, freely branching growth habit. These qualities make ‘Orange Hot’ a commercially desirable cultivar. Mature leaves are lanceolate, 18 to 20 cm in length, and 9 to 11 cm in width at the widest portion. While the upper leaf surface is dark green, the leaf underside is a much lighter green. ‘Orange Hot’ produces petioles of uniform yellow-green and spathes that unfurl into a light salmon, which gradually fades over weeks to a lighter orange color. These spathes typically reach 6 to 7 cm in length and 4 to 5 cm in width. The peducles of this cultivar display a yellow-green color at the |
base and darken to a greyed-orange near the spathe. Experimental tests utilizing liners potted into 1.6 L pots revealed that plants of ‘Orange Hot’ will reach marketable size in 7 months. Mature plants of this cultivar are typically twice as wide as they are tall and produce primary and secondary shoots that result in 4 to 5 flowers per plant. ‘Orange Hot’ is intended for commercial producers growing finished plants in 1.6 or 3.9 L containers.
